If you wish to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of the past and feel like a hero of the 17th century, then a trip to Château Flaugergues, a small castle built by the descendants of the famous French Minister of Finance and the right hand of Louis XIV – Jean-Baptiste Colbert – will be the perfect choice or solution.

This incredibly refined yet strikingly simple building, rather resembling a small villa, lost among the hills of Tuscany, was originally just a farmhouse.

The farmhouse was rebuilt in the 1st century and successfully transformed into a small countryside residence, where 11 generations of the same family have lived for more than 300 years, carefully preserving its heritage and traditions.

The estate has been wonderfully preserved, and somehow miraculously despite all twists of fate – the French Revolution, World War I, and the German occupation during World War II –, you can still admire its magnificent hanging staircase without supports, authentic 14th-century Flemish tapestries, and letters from Voltaire written to one of the owners.

The manor is surrounded by a legendary French garden and over four hectares of vineyards. Under the bright sun of the French south different grape varieties are grown in order to produce excellent wine.

After a brief tour of the interiors of the house, you can enjoy a delicious lunch at the castle's small restaurant and taste wines from local vineyards.
